This dynamic pianist returns with a wonderful selection of American-inspired
jazz and blues classics for Independence Day, and Mussorgsky's colourful
and monumental Pictures at an Exhibition, one of the greatest works
of the romantic piano repertoire. Concert ends 9.30pm
Ends 9.30pm
Saturday 5 July - 7.30pm

The award-winning young violinist performs a recital with pianist Steven
Osborne
- Debussy Violin Sonata
- Prokofiev Violin Sonata No 1 in F minor Op 80
- Brahms Violin Sonata No 2 in A major Op 100

"the gift of communication in spades" returns to Brinkburn with her
own recital. We recommend early booking as Nicola was a huge hit in
2005.

Sunday 6 July
Why not start the day with coffee and pastries in the marquee?
11am - Pieter Wispelwey
This renowned and virtuoso Dutch cellist performs all six of Bach's
suites, for many the greatest works in the cello repertoire, on original
instruments. There will be a leisurely lunch break during the concert.
Part one 11am-12 noon, part two 1.30pm - 3pm
including a lunch break Ends 3pm
Afternoon tea available in the marquee - can be pre-booked.
4.30pm - Gabrieli Consort & Players with Tees Valley Youth Choir
This programme features two masterpieces from baroque Rome. Domenico
Scarlatti's beautiful Stabat Mater setting for ten solo voices is all
too rarely heard. For Handel's youthful and exuberant Dixit Dominus,
the Gabrielis will be joined by the brilliant Tees Valley Youth Choir
who made such an impression at last year's festival.

reputation as one of the most expressive, entertaining and professional
ensembles in the world. Concert ends 9.30pm
Ends 9.30pm

Generation Artists in concerts which will be recorded for future broadcast.
These rising stars will be names to look out for in the future.

This wonderful young mezzo soprano from Austria presents a selection
of Lieder from Schubert (to include Gretchen am Spinnrade, Heidenröslein,
Der König in Thule, Der Musensohn) and Korngold, and Schumann's beautiful
song cycle Frauenliebe und -leben Op. 42 based on poems about love,
marriage, birth and death.
Ends 5pm
7.30pm - Pavel Haas Quartet

Prokofiev - Quartet No.2

Sunday 13 July - A Purcell Celebration
with the Gabrieli Consort & Players Director Paul McCreesh
12 noon Purcell Anthems
Purcell composed sacred music throughout his creative life, and left
a particularly fine body of verse anthems for strings and voices. This
concert will be recorded by BBC Radio 3 for the Early Music Show, and
will include Sing unto the Lord, Rejoice in the Lord always, Let mine
eyes run down with tear' and My beloved spake.

Ends 1pm
3pm Three Odes for St Cecilia
- Purcell Welcome to all the Pleasures
- Britten Hymn to Saint Cecilia
- Purcell Hail, Bright Cecilia
Purcell's intimate early masterpiece Welcome to all the Pleasures
is contrasted by his most extrovert ode Hail, Bright Cecilia for seven
solo voices and full baroque orchestra. Britten's music was hugely
indebted to Purcell's style and his own ode to the Patron Saint of
music provides a worthy companion piece.
