Werner Gura, born in Munich, received his musical training at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and completed his vocal studies with Professor Kurt Widmer. His present singing coaches are Nicolai Gedda and Professor Margreet Honig. He has appeared at the Konzerthaus Vienna in Haydn's Schöpfung with Adam Fischer; at the Royal Festival Hall London with Kurt Masur; at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam as the Evangelist in Bach's St John Passion with Philippe Herreweghe; as Belshazzar with Marcus Creed; and in Beethoven's Mass in C major with Sir Colin Davis. He has performed with many leading orchestras in Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, London Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, and Danish National Radio Symphony orchestras. Other conductors he has worked with include Peter Schreier, Trevor Pinnock, René Jacobs. Ton Koopman, Riccardo Chailly, Claudio Abbado, Marek Janowski, Arnin Jordan, Nikolaus Haroncourt and Ralf Weikert. He has toured in Japan with Beethoven's 9th Symphony (Herreweghe) and Bach's St John Passion (Michel Corboz). |
